Bio
My violin journey began at the Hartt School of Music’s community division in Hartford Connecticut, where I grew up as a Suzuki violin student. Later in life I returned to the Hartt School of Music and earned Masters Degrees in Music Education and Violin Performance & Suzuki Pedagogy, along with the Merit Scholarship. I earned my Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, and was honored to be awarded the Howard Hanson Scholarship. My primary teachers included Teri Einfeldt, Lynn Blakeslee and Mickey Reisman.
I later went on to teach at the Hartt School Community Division and was awarded tenure teaching in Westchester County New York in the New York State Public Schools. There, I had the opportunity to direct multiple orchestras and string programs. I enjoyed my time teaching in Westchester and found it to be very rewarding but decided after I received tenure that I needed an adventure.
Being half Hong Kong Chinese, I had always loved the idea of getting in touch with my Chinese heritage while doing something I loved – teaching. So I went to Hong Kong in 2010 to teach at the KinderU Suzuki Music Academy - at the time the only Suzuki Method music school in Hong Kong. Alongside my work, I had the privilege to perform with the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and also appeared solo and in chamber groups at venues such as St John’s Cathedral, the Sheung Wan Civic Center Lecture Hall and Hong Kong City Hall.
Eventually, I returned to New York and now teach Elementary Orchestra in Dutchess County while maintaining a private Suzuki violin studio. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy performing with local ensembles such as the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra. I am also the President and Co-Founder of the Mid-Hudson Suzuki Music Collaborative.
Outside of music, you can usually find me outdoors with my dog, Yogi—who often joins my lessons! He’s a registered therapy dog and a wonderful companion to students who need a little extra comfort. He’s also, without question, the goodest boy.
